the cookie jar/ice bucket

Or, perhaps, just “The Ice Bucket”… This piece is widely available online, sans chrome band/handle” as a cookie jar, but I’ve seen none “in box” as such.

The ice bucket, individually listed at $18.00, was sold in a set with metal tongs and four rocks glasses.

The jar, like the canisters in the line, is blown instead of pressed, the lid is the later. As a result, the details of the base are all “round-y”, but unlike the canisters, I still find this item highly attractive, likely for the characteristics of the lid.

On to the details:

Dimensions: Jar:

Height: 7″

Width: Mid: 7″ x 8″ Base: 5″ x 5.75″  Lip: 6.75″

Dimensions: Lid:

Height: 4″

Width: 6.75″ diameter

Pattern Details: Jar:

Edge detail: Banded lip

Band width: .25″

Large diamond: varies from .5″ to .625″

Small diamond: .25″

Small diamond band width: 2″

Starburst diameter: 4″

Number of starburst rays: 28

Starburst location: outside bottom

Fluting location: slight fluting around banded lip

Number of flutes: 24

Pattern Details: Lid:

Edge detail: smooth edge

Large diamond: varies from .5″ to .625″

Small diamond: 3/16″ (also varies from .125″ to .25″ on handle)

Small diamond band width: .375″

Starburst location: none

Fluting location: none

Versatility: In addition to the cookie jar/ice bucket double use of this form, the lid is used with the covered candy dish. (And as previously discussed, the lid also fits on the footed centerpiece.) Most often, we used the piece as an oversized candy; sometimes in lieu of an apothecary jar in the bathroom.

Note: The jar is blown into a mold, not pressed. The lid is pressed glass. The quality of the jar is comparable to the decanters and significantly higher than the canister set.
