scalloped accoutrements

Following from the previous post, I have found a suitable peg votive holder to provide the Wexford candleholder a modern use.

I have taken to LED candles for entertaining and seasonal decorating, and I prefer votives/tea lights over tapers since the plastic case can be obscured by a holder, leaving just the flicker of light.

These holders have enough pressed detail to obscure the LED case and bounce the light. They are described as a “pineapple pattern” pressed glass peg votives online. The pattern is similar to Pineapple by Anchor Hocking (1941 through the 1970s), but I cannot confirm that the line included this item.

Peg votives have become rare, but I am familiar with them from my days as an event florist. Their best use in the day: holding liquid paraffin and shades on a PVC candlesticks, but those peg votives weren’t as showy as these.

At the base is a diamond grid very similar to Wexford, from that extends the “pineapple” fronds, ending with a scalloped edge that mimics the Wexford candleholder beautifully.

Augmenting our catalog of Wexford thoughfully with “mimics” and “almosts” provides rhythmic counterpoints as a viewer moves through the high volume of pressed glass.
